Well, to say the least, jewerly is an unusual spelling for the word jewelry, but in looking up the different ways that people spell the word, it is a bit mind boggling to see all the different spelling variations.

There are two widely used spellings, one is Webster’s, which is jewelry, and then there is the English spelling, which is jewellery, and then there are several other lesser used spellings including jewlry, jewerly, jewellry, and jewlery.

I can’t think of any other word that has so many opportunities for misspellings, but when you pronounce the word, it could, depending upon where you are from, be conceivably spelled in all of these different ways. And, you can’t believe how many people spell it each of these various ways.

However it is spelled, jewerly has been an integral part of man’s culture ever since recorded history, and even before. Jewerly has never been a respecter of persons, and has been an important way to express wealth and social status irregardless of ones race or culture all down through time.

Amazingly, the very first forms of really antique jewerly from 90,000 years ago are still being made an worn today. During that period of time, shells were being strung together with some form of twine and worn as necklaces.

A vacation trip to almost any beach today will find the souvenir shops loaded with necklaces and bracelets made from local sea shells, and while they are strung on modern day twine, they are essentially the very same shell necklaces worn back in those ancient days.

In 4700BC during the reign of King Zer bracelets were made from gold and manufactured in a design and method widely available in today’s jewerly markets.

The Egyptians are credited with the beginning of our modern form of jewerly as it was during the time of this rich and progressive people that jewerly making became a skilled profession. Jewerly craftsmen and artisans were important members of the Egyptian society as their artistry produced the valued amulets and talismans, which were worn to protect against evil.

Since gold was highly valued for its color and it was easy to work with and readily available, it was used primarily by the Egyptian jewelers in their everyday efforts to produce their historically spectacular scarab.

Diamonds and other precious stones that are highly valued in today’s jewerly were infrequently used simply because they did not offer the color, nor the symbolism of the other more colorful gemstones that were often used.

Jewerly continues to leave its mark on every culture, no matter the country. When our modern day jewerly is unearthed thousands of years from now, our present day societies will, most likely, be noted as the era of an endless variety in its jewerly making.

Wedding Jewlry

I have always enjoyed admiring and, of course, wearing jewlry. Since I was a child I have been partial to non-traditional types of jewlry. You may ask, what do you mean by non-traditional?

For example, I don’t want just diamonds on my wedding band. Nope, never did. I want something different like coral, spiny oyster, turquoise and maybe a splash of diamonds.

To me, a wedding band set with just diamonds represents everybody else’s wedding, and everybody else’s marriage. No, I want my own wedding and my own marriage. So, of course, I want my own special wedding jewlery with the colors and stone combination that mean something to me.

I live in the southwest so, my wedding jewlry I choose might consist of beautiful turquoise and, for contrast, some spiny oyster. My wedding jewlry could possibly even include a bit of classy-looking blue lapis. Now, it is time to add the diamonds. Don’t you think that would be gorgeous?

I would spend my honeymoon in Hawaii where my new hubby and I could snorkel, and who knows, we might find a piece of beautiful coral. Finding a colorful piece of coral in Hawaii would be a perfect warm reminder of those magical honeymoon days.

And, depending on the color of the coral, I could add spiny oyster or turquoise to create a truly spectacular piece of jewlry that I could wear daily, yet it would always remind me of my fantastichoneymoon evenings in Hawaii.

See what I am talking about? This is wedding jewlry with a definite individual flair. It is uniquely different than the same old run-of-the-mill engagement and wedding jewlery that the vast majority of brides feel tradition-bound to select.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t want cheap or wholesale jewlry, nor do I want a coconut hemp looking thing either. That is fine for people that want to wear that type of jewlry. I just don’t prefer that type. I do respect their right to do their own thing, just as I hope others respect my right to do my thing.

No, I prefer gold jewlry or silver jewlry or even diamond jewlry, but I want it in combination with other colorful, stunning stones.

I haven’t worn a watch for several years now. I always use my cell phone to determine what time it is. However, here lately, I started to have a hankering for a watch.

Yip, you got it, not just the regular ole Timex type like everyone else is wearing. No, I want a specific jewlry watch that will rock my world each and every time I look at it.

I am thinking I want a sterling silver cuff watch. I don’t want a cuff that takes up half my forearm, but I want one that gently caresses my wrist and is covered with inlaid turquoise, spiny oyster and a hint of lapis. I want it to be narrow on the inside of the wrist and gradually get wider as it makes its way around to the watch face. I think that my jewlry watch should be so different that it simply stops the clock. Sorry for the pun on words, but you know what I mean?

As you may have guessed by now, I don’t have the herd mentality when it comes to anything, but I’m especially determined to have my wedding jewlry express my individual tastes and preferences. People are not comfortable with change, and I guess my ideas about adding variety to the standard fair wedding jewlry would drive the jewlry stores crazy, but I think that it is about time to jazz up the wedding jewlry scene.
